So called as the resin has been tinted and manipulated whilst in the drying process to create a smoky, bellowing effect.
The combination of the clean crisp edge, the highly polished finish and natural indentations of the wood, as well as the imperfections that have been highlighted rather than hidden, truly enhance the character of this piece.
The timber used was part of a load of we acquired that had been stored for a number of years outside at a property in our home town, Brighton UK. As a result, the timber had been subject to all the elements that British weather brings and was twisted, stained and the weaker parts were beginning to rot.
We meticulously dried, cut away sections, weighted, clamped, planed and sanded the timber as well as treated the imperfections to reveal the natural look of the lumber used.
The legs of the piece are truly unique and the almost gravity defying design is another example of how The Ideas Lab aims to push the boundaries of design and form.
Hardwood wedges hand selected and equally sized during the process of refining the original timber were then clamped, glued, set and joined to the slab at a slight angle, perfectly complimenting the sleek and refined character of the table.
